The Matrix (Resurrections)

This is not only a review of the new movie but of the franchise as They came out well before I had a blog.

Being as The new Movie was going to be on HBO Max for a limited time, I was lucky enough that they had the first 3 movies as well. So I wanted to rewatch them as I don’t remember much. With the re-watch I know why.  Honestly the first movie was great back then but on the re-watch of them… Some of the visual effects are starting to get dated.  Some worse than others.

2019   PG  1:52  blu-ray  Colin Farrell, Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton,  eva green & Michael Buffer

The Max Medici circus is struggling. Max has been selling things to keep afloat and even to get a new attraction. He’s got a big elephant, and she’s pregnant. They go to move the elephant out of the car and Mrs. Jumbo won’t move… when they finally get her out of the car, they discover jumbo Jr. (i like that better than the name dumbo, though either way the name needs an update)  who with a sneeze unfurls his big ears. I always thought he’d just grow into them. When the ferrier children find that J.J. can fly he becomes part of the act.

Billy the Kid vs Dracula

1966    Horror, Comedy, Western  John Carradine  (as Dracula/James underhill)    Chuck CourtneyMelinda Plowman

This was on MEtv’s Svengoolie show on Saturday night @ 8 est (u.s.)

Just the title gives me a bit of a laugh cause it just sounds so silly

Billy the Kid has given up his lawless quick-draw life to marry Betty. He’s working on her family’s ranch and has a tendency to put himself into police business.

Betty’s Aunt (or was it her mother) was coming with her uncle James who Betty never met. Dracula is in the coach with them, but it looks like day time WTF!?

Universal Legacy Classics

Classic Monsters (Complete 30-Film Collection)

I love to watch the old black and white horror movies, even if its just mysteries. I think the black & white adds to the creepy & suspenseful ambiance of the movies, and 2. I almost could not decide which to review!

I looked through the movies that were and being as I’ve seen (I think) all of the Universal Studios Legacy collection (more or less): Dracula starring Bela Lugosi, The Wolfman’s Lon Chaney Jr. & Boris Karloff in The Mummy as well as Frankenstein and I forget who played the Creature from the Black Lagoon.   I thought maybe one of those then I also saw Carnival of Souls, Nosferatu (though may have been the new one), House on Haunted Hill with Vincent Price, The Raven Starring Boris Karloff & Bela Lugosi and I may have seen the Bride of Frankenstein long ago But I’m not sure at all if I’ve seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame and (however if a  Silent film… I think I’ve only been able to watch one of those in my life.

Ultimately I came to the conclusion to review Dracula,  as best I can (being it’s been awhile) and that I love Dracula, Vampires and Bela Lugosi

October Viewing Tricks and Treats 2019

Somehow this year my subscription lasted through October (I don’t remember putting THAT much money on the gift card. I only used Netflix last summer from July until mid to end of September; So I see it as a sort of treat and therefore will publish this list (as a page) the first week of October as a 31 Days of (Netflix) Halloween

Maybe I should title this more as Streaming or viewing tricks and treats

Not sure if this is going to be an annual feature as I usually subscribe to Netflix from July to September.  I will make some sort of annual Halloween marathon page or post. Be it Netflix or just what I’ve watched for the 31 nights of halloween

I will try my best to keep up with writing up reviews either by individual post (and of course linked on here), or directly on this page. (Sadly that didn’t happen. But I may pick a select few titles to review.

includes BOth Netflix streaming and DvDs I’ve rented from them via DVD.com. My own movie library, (Monster Squad likely to be one) and whatever I catch on (cable) movie stations. (Like old Horror movies on Turner Classic Movies and my Usual Saturday night watching Svengoolie

Netflix MTurner Classic Movies DVD NETFLIX My Library Vudu ( likely watched free with commercials) Syfy  MIscellanous (black= cable)

I came across this Advent Style apothecary drawers stand while looking for an October banner. I think this is far better than the month banner as this is in a sense a marathon of

(The funny thing is, I’ve been trying to get what I need to make one with fabric. If I had the room, I’d rather use this as on halloween you could always put it outside and let the kids pick a number and get candy or a toy. They have the plastic Storage bins like for hardware you can do it with too

First I’ll start with what should have never been greenlit and a comparison to the original

2015  Pg-13  1:33  REMAKE   Sam Rockwell,  Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, Jared Harris, & Jane Adams  (more on On Imdb  )

I watched this out of curiosity as to how bad or sacrilege it would be. How does it compare to the original? Don’t bother with this one! It does not have the creepy tone and atmosphere as the original. It does not have the menace not even the clown (I think the original clown was much scarier.) I think it tries too hard to be scary and feels hurried. There were a couple of aspects that I believe were new to this update such as the dark spirit world which looks less imaginative and the FX of it  looks like a freakish orgy of blackened bodies. Which reminded me of the sculpture in the HellRaiser movies). The clown has one wicked laugh (so of course it made me laugh) but doesn’t give you the creepy, I hate clowns feeling as the original. The movie lacks charm not to mention (but worst of all) lacks  a likable family.

The Psychic medium Tangia (played by Zelda Rubenstein in the original) is now Continue reading “Classic Cuts-Poltergeist”

Classic Cuts- Lethal Weapon

Classic Cuts

Image by Cool Text: Free Logos and ButtonsCreate An Image Just Like This

I don’t think I even watched these movies, at least not in full. If I have watched any of them, I don’t remember it. I know I’ve seen clips here and there but I don’t even recall which ones, let alone from which of the movies. I’ve watched the Tv series Reboot (On Wednesday Nights 8pm (Est) on Fox. I loved it, I thought all the coming attractions before it aired the pilot episode was going to be all hype, and after seeing the gags in it, I didn’t think I’d laugh when those parts would come up in the show, but I did! It is my favorite new show of 2016 and must watch. Heck, I even watch it live and watch Arrow on Demand now! (Sorry Stephen Amell)

as for the Movies basically I’d end up comparing them to the TV show, but I know I should do it the other way around. I’m not sure if I want to compare them per movie or just wait until the end for

Lethal Weapon

1987    R , 1:50   Action,Crime, Thriller   Mel Gibson, Danny Glover, Darlene Love, Gary Busey

Police Detective Martin Riggs is reckless and suicidal after the death of his wife. He’s reassigned to partner with family man Roger Murtah. The new partners clash immediately , however together  they uncover  a mass drug ring. They begin to form a bond as they  encounter  more dangerous situations and Riggs volitile behavior  if it doesn’t kill them first, it just might help catch the bad guys.

“You think I’m crazy,  want to see crazy”

then does some sort of Three Stooges slapstick bt on the guys.

I think this scene gave me the biggest laugh of the whole movie (maybe even movie Continue reading “Classic Cuts- Lethal Weapon”

Cat and the Canary

1927   unrated   Classic  Silent B/W    Comedy, Horror , Mystery   Laura La Plante

The heirs of Cyrus West must spend a night in his creepy manse 20 years After his passing to claim their inheritance.

Annabelle West (Laura LePlante) is first in line but must be of sound mind to do so, as all of them claimed Cyrus to not be in his right mind plus she also must find the West diamonds. Of course where there are heirs, like in the middle ages, there is of course one that tries to take it into their own hands by scheming.

Soylent Green

1973

PG

Run Time 1:37

GENRE  Sci-fi, Thriller

Stars  Charlton Heston, Edward G. Robinson

Set in 2022  in a polluted and super congested (you thought you were a sardine in a can now… wait a few years!) New York City with a population of 44,000,000 where a company makes a synthetic food called Soylent Green.  Detective Thorn played by Charlton Heston is looking into the murder of a corporate executive, and while doing so he ‘stumbles’ upon the products shocking ingredients. (Let me guess…people? Garbage?)

For the first 2 minutes there a collage of still pictures showing the degree of this overpopulated and polluted future. (which still looks like the 70s minus the rich guy’s apartment which has a futuristic Astroids gaming cabinet.)

Soylent Green in the movie all the poor people are told is made with ‘HIgh Energy Plankton’ but if most food is scarce, I doubt there’s plankton still in the sea.

Well, I just saw my favorite part of the movie, it’s nothing big but just a shame we can’t really take care of riots that way! Or let ‘SWAT’ literally do so. The ‘Scoops’ when I first heard it I thought was a new version of Swat or a new military acronym but no It’s what they exactly are. They SCOOP UP the riot! At least some of the rioters anyway. Oh yeah and little chuckle that it swats the guy shooting the gun.

For being 4-5 years away, the movie is very dated, I think even if you were still in the 1970s you’d still think it didn’t look all that futuristic.

The fighting I’d think is overly dramatic, Who the hell pulls their arm that far back to punch someone? or extends that much? I can see they are purposefully missing each other.

Was a nice (Predictable) mystery However, this future is not far off. Between Trump being prez, the ‘weird weather’ aka Global Warming. How can anyone NOT see it. Most times we’d start to get snow storms in November either before or just in time for Thanksgiving. Now… We are lucky if there are white December Holidays. Sometimes now there’s no snow at all or if lucky we’ll get a ‘dusting’ which is gone in an hour!  When I was in school our snow day(s) were FULL of snow enough to make slides, forts, and then some.
