And then there were None

2016,       Not Rated       1:57   Charles Dance   Sam Neil  Aiden Turne

So the description onthe netflix sleeve sounds a little like House on Haunted Hill to me.

“Ten strangers receive invitations to visit a mansion on an isolated offshore island” known as Soldier Island.

This was one of those slow build but still didn’t feel suspenseful. The first part had my full attention but there was a 2nd disk which I forget at  what point started to lose my attention.

So this was I had thought a 3-part series but I think it was only 2 parts. Interesting mystery though, I like how it revolves around the framed morbid ‘nursery rhyme’  that’s in every room

10 Little soldier boys went out to dine, one choked his little self  and then there were Nine

9 little soldier boys ………                   ^one overslept himself and then there were 8

Eight little soldier boys Traveling in Devon, one said he wold stay there, and then there were seven.

Seven little soldiers chopping up sticks,  one chopped himself off then there were six.

Six little soldiers played with a hive; a bumble bee stung* one then there were five.

Four little soldier boys going out to sea, a red herring swallowed one and then there were three.

2 little soldier boys Sitting in the sun, one got frizzled up then there was one.

One little soldier boy left all alone he went and hanged himself and then there were none.

Searched to see if it was a real poem or whatever you want to call it.. and YES it wasn’t just made up for the movie!

(here’s a different one NOT from the movie)

^ didn’t hear the beginning  but yet what I have doesn’t sound right

*um yeah….Bumble bees don’t have stingers I did a picture search not one stinger in one, they are the ones that do the pollinating)

Extraordinary Tales

2015  Not Rated  1:13   Narrated by  Christopher Lee, Bela Lugosi, Julian Sands, Guillermo del Toro, Cornelia Funke, Stephen Hugues, and Roger Corman

On opening it looks like Burtonesque origami! Turns out it’s tales from Edgar Allen Poe (no wonder I ordered it!)

A Crow flies on screen with the statue and as it later says ad I quote

“What am I doing reciting poetry with a statue…I must be drunk”

my cat is watching the crow oops or being as this is Edgar Allen Poe… I should say Raven on the screen intently!

Each story seems to be animated in a different style which I like, as it would also help with the tone of the story.

  • The fall of the house of Usher you certainly cannot mistake the voice of Christopher Lee.
  • The Tell Tale Heart- this one narrated by Dracula’s Bela Lugosi and there’s definitely no mistaking his voice either. This in was done in the noir (or something like) style. Now this is the way I wouldn’t mind a story being told to me. If tupac and Michael jackson can be resurrected via hologram I know there are programs that can work with a voice clip to fix or dub over dialog mistakes in movies (at least now) … any chance we can get this to be done for some stories on audible? THEN I might be willing to pay the extra bit to have a story told to me.
  • The facts int he case of M. valdemar  is narrated byJulian Sands and done in the style of an old comic strip style it reminds me of the colors and such of  the Prince Valient comic strips. And My word one of the characters look like it was inspired by Vincent Price, (or very similar) I would swear it WAS VP if it weren’t an animation.
  • The Pit and the Pendulum    voiced by Guillermo del Toro  is done in a style like some of the video games. Now a lot of the time video game graphics are so good that when I first (or firstfew times) I see it I think its a trailer for a movie and the people are real then at some point during the tailer or after seeing it 3-5 times it clicks its a video game.   Its done in a realistic way yet not.
  • The mask of the Red Death  this looks like it was done with water color or chalk but aside from the art I didn’t care for this one at all. I don’t know if it was the narration or the story itself, or maybe it was the style it was animated in (or the effect of all of it overall)

Can kids watch it… that’s for you to decide though after reading the stories, I would definitely (if I was a teacher) have my students watch this.

12 Rounds: Lockdown

2015      R      1:30   Dean Ambrose, Daniel Cudmore, Roger Cross, Lochlyn Munro

After discovering evidence that implicates his fellow officers (oh how original!) Shaw  is hunted down by said comrades.

Well for one I now know Dean Ambrose’s real name as far as the cast listing, and I think I’d legally change my name to Dean Ambrose! lol

While the first 2 were a cruel ‘game’ The first one I regretted not seeing in the theater. As when I watched it I was surprised a  ‘WWE studios’ movie or just one with a wrestler in it was actually good for once. Usually they are crap! (and the reason I skipped it in the theater)  The one with Randy Orton I don’t think was out in the theaters however it’s Randy Orton one of my faves! So I had to watch~

Now we have Dean Ambrose which I never saw getting his own movie (I thought CM Punk, would but he was always treated like crap by the organization)  though Roman Reigns or Rollins I thought would have one before the Bulldog would (as I always referred to the 3 of them as the dog Pound. Roman and Rollins being a Rottweiler and a German Shepard or even a doberman)

45  minutes in, this is (thankfully) not the usual 12 Rounds fare.  The protragonist (Ambrose) doesn’t have to save his girlfriend or wife’s life and having to run etc all over in a certain amount of time to make it to the next round of the game. Here, he’s the one with the 12 rounds…literally.  He opens his magazine (the clip of ammo in the gun for those of you that don’t know the lingo)  and there are 12 bullets. So you could say he’s the one controlling the ‘game’

The bit with the tazer in the crime lab gave me a laugh.. it’s the bomb but not in the way that phrase means.

I am not digging Ambrose in the role but he does clean up nicely.

If predictabil;ity were a super power…..this has it!

Aside from the one liners  I give it a D

Don’t Breathe

2016     R    Stephen Lang, Jane Levy, Dylan Minnette,Daniel ZovattoImage result for Recycled Trash Art

Three thieves from Detroit  break into the houses of the rich to make a living.  They get word  of an old blind vet  living in an abandoned neighborhood who won a settlement  following the death of his only child. They break in  thinking it’s an easy target but find themselves trapped inside fighting for their lives and also find a shocking discovery inside their supposedly helpless victims basement.

Easy and simple… an hour has gone by and I am wondering why this was not a direct to video release.

The Taking of Deborah Logan

2014    R    Jill Larson, Anne Ramsay, Michelle Ang,Brett Gentile     70 mins    Horror, Mystery, thriller

So I thought this was just another cliche possession movie. Wrong!

This was a ‘blair witch’ hybrid a single camera filmed docu horror as well as times where it seems like a normally filmed movie. Because of  her fast progressing disease (she has dementia or alzheimer’s) she is either possessed or just remembering some things.

I watched on Stream Dor a free app I got for my kindle, which you can watch movies free. (Though sometimes in another language with subtitles or in English with some foreign subtitles.  I ended up watching a couple of movies (forget which) in Polish, one in which I had already seen before so that was interesting to me.

I don’t find this movie to be worth the time really (unless you are perhaps bored in a hotel room, everything is closed or you are just in the middle of nowhere)  I was jsut so tired I jsut really did not want to read and had nothing else to watch that was short. Now I know why Netflix doesn’t have it!

X-men Apocalypse

The usual suspects Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicolas Holt, Even Peters,James McAvoy, Sophie Turner with McGuyver’s Lucas Till (was he in the past ones?)

I don’t have much to say about this, other than we find out how  Charles Xavier becomes bald.

The plotline stinks, why does it seem centered on Mistique to me? Wasn’t crazy about Angel though glad he now has the sharpened wings. And s a few days later I can’t remember much (nothing that matters) about it.

It’s set in the 80s and starts in Ancient Egypt during a transfiguration Ritual (why not just call Professor McGonagal?)

Some ‘Gods’ or shall I say priests with the masks of their gods as well as soldiers around are protecting the body.

One of these soldiers who is supposed to protect what is going on is in on a plan against the ritual, and upon attacking gets folded up into a ball.

Later Charles Xavier’s school is burning down and Quicksilver goes to save everyone, one being a french bulldog which love the face like it’s in a car and its jsut not letting go of that slice of pizza!

Amusing the movie makes fun of it self!! saying the 3rd one always sucks and honestly.. I’m VERY glad I didn’t waste my money on it seeing it in the theater! I waited for cable!  Definitely a poor (below poor?) outing.

and EssexCorp. What is the Essex corp? I never heard of that before or don’t remember .

Honestly I’m not crazy about this set of X-men films… I like the originals better, but then I do need to rewatch those for a Class Cuts installment
