Annihilation

2018    R   Natalie Portman, Jennifer Jason Leigh,Tessa Thompson, Gina Rodriguez, Tuva Novotny, Oscar Issac

Adventure, Drama, Horror

Mission Girl Power!

A covert expedition into a government area sealed off for decades. The four women.. a psychologist, surveyor, biologist, and anthropologist find a wilderness where our known laws of nature do not pertain. This is called the Shimmer.

Loved  The light house and crystal trees…

Aside from the shimmer and the trees, this was a drab piece of crap. the only int4eresting part was what the shimmer was and what was causing (or should that be creating) it.

How Portman has any awards is beyond me, and maybe one big reason the first 2 Thor movies mostly the 2nd were not u-p to par.

As for the title, I would not have titled it that. Why because Neither the world nor a species  was annihilated.

First I’ll start with what should have never been greenlit and a comparison to the original

2015  Pg-13  1:33  REMAKE   Sam Rockwell,  Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, Kennedi Clements, Jared Harris, & Jane Adams  (more on On Imdb  )

I watched this out of curiosity as to how bad or sacrilege it would be. How does it compare to the original? Don’t bother with this one! It does not have the creepy tone and atmosphere as the original. It does not have the menace not even the clown (I think the original clown was much scarier.) I think it tries too hard to be scary and feels hurried. There were a couple of aspects that I believe were new to this update such as the dark spirit world which looks less imaginative and the FX of it  looks like a freakish orgy of blackened bodies. Which reminded me of the sculpture in the HellRaiser movies). The clown has one wicked laugh (so of course it made me laugh) but doesn’t give you the creepy, I hate clowns feeling as the original. The movie lacks charm not to mention (but worst of all) lacks  a likable family.

The Psychic medium Tangia (played by Zelda Rubenstein in the original) is now Continue reading

Blood on the Dance floor

Back in the day when I saw that this was coming out I was ecstatic! Not because I’m a comic geek but because I’m a vampire geek and my #1 all-time favorite actor was in it. (You might say I grew up with him, well watching him as he’s just a few years older than myself.

In a way it was sort of a ‘dirty’ fantasy come true; when I first saw the trailer I think I actually squealed as I saw my favorite actor Stephen Dorff was in it. Then saw that it was a Vampire movie. There was another thing i realized in the trailers, something seemed ‘off’ about Stephen Dorff.  He looked different some how that I couldn’t quite put a fang on.  After seeing the trailer a few times I noticed one thing about the looks, his eyes looked funny and I remembered them being brown (as every time I heard Duces Wild by Aerosmith it would make me think of him. I brushed it off figuring maybe I was seeing things or it was some lighting thing. That should have been a hint to me (if not outright tell) as to who or what he would be playing in the movie.

Summer of Netflix

While I was looking after my Aunt’s house in July I  started my Netflix summer vacation. Trying to binge as many of the original shows and some movies as possible.  I still have many others (like some of the Marvel series to watch but I’m not going to get through everything by the first week of October. I thought I’d also re-watch the first 3 seasons of American Horror Story, as Season 8 deals with Murder house & Coven. Also watched the first 3 seasons of Goosebumps (a show I enjoyed in my teens, I’ll be working on a classic Cuts for that)

I’ve temporarily canceled streaming as the regular fall shows are starting to come back will pick up watching the rest during the holiday hiatus so I don’t have to deal with all those holiday repeats. Speaking of which, I always wonders…..WHY are there not more Jewish, Kwanzaa, Yule/solstice stories? And WHY are those that celebrate these (and others that are not Christmas) not making a big fuss of not having their own holiday entertainment?

Anyway so this is one extra long post. Hope you enjoy

Here are my recommendations,  (some are links to the individual review)

American Horror Story: Apocalypse

I’d realized at the end of july maybe the beginning that its been a year or so since a new season was out. Last I had heard there were plans to do 2 stories a year.  I was wondering and willing for a new season so much I’d swear my shear force of will I made it happen. For some reason I thought after the Cult season that it was over, being as it’s taken so long for it to come back. I had not heard of any news or renewal between then and in August when I found out the first week lof august. I think I saw it trending on twitter or maybe it was in my paper.li Paper. Either way happy to see an old ‘friend’ is back. (Especially after it seems most of my shows  were canceled, or is replacing my favorite character. (as long as Vikings is still around I won’t have to kill anyone though I’ll send them to Murder house if I need to; after all the Scorpio (espcially me) do hold grudges as well or better than the dead!

Tyler Perry’s BOO! A Madea Halloween

While some parts were funny, this was so stupid; however, at the same time, you should sit your kids down to watch especially the teens for the moral of the story.

Just gotta love the ‘punishment’ at the end, and I don’t mean the talking to, but daaaaaaamn! With those 4 old coots especially Medea she’d give anyone an anxiety/panic attack

Oh and fans of The Walking Dead…. NO that’s not the actor that plays ‘Jesus’ this guy’s name is Brock O’Hurn.

There’s really nothing ‘to write home about’ with this one.

is it fun, maybe a little is it scary well.. if you have a problem with clowns… there’s a creepy one in here.

It’s no classic and quickly forgotten after watched.

I would only suggest watching it if  its October/Halloween and  you are in a frat house (or next to one)

The Lawnmower Man

See the source image1992  Jeff Fahey, Pierce Brosnan, Dean Norris

Until recently I’ve never watched this.  I’d imagine being from the 1990s that this was some breakthrough for Graphic FX, not to mention the start of Virtual reality?

Not sure why I never saw this when It was out, maybe to me even then it looked sort of cartoon cheesy. I was wrong. I’m surprised at the graphics for it being the early 90s even though it still looks like some 1980’s music video to me;Oh yeah and those suits look a bit too “TRON” to me but aside from those things the story is interesting and flows well but if any movie needs an update, this one is in need at least for the Visual FX.

I think this is considered a classic, but I could be wrong.

Aside from the graphics it somewhat still holds up to the test of time.
