2018  Pg-13 Action, Thriller  1:42   Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Neve Campbell

After an explosion during a mission, ex-military special ops Will Sawyer is Security #1 at the world’s largest building on earth, ‘The Pearl’. I believe they said something about it being a mile high, its 225 stories. And NO its NOT a real building. (but who knows, maybe someone will make one at some point)

Just as he gets his biometric tablet, he can control it all from there. It was not hard to tell sus out who the antagonists were.  Also a building on a computer network, no thank you!

Being as The Rock was in it, I thought it was going to be a crap movie, but for one it was better than I thought it would be.

There’s a few intense parts, and anyone with a fear of Heights, whatever you do DO NOT look down during those types of shots. I got dizzy and a headache from at least one shot.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

2017     PG13  1:59          Action, adventure, Comedy

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan

This time instead of the Jungle coming to them and destroying a house as it did in the 1995 Original starring Robin Willams they go to the jungle.

In the original the children find a board game that comes to life, sadly there’s no explanation as to how the board game  video game of an Atari looking System they find while cleaning a classroom (i’m guessing detention?) and they decide to take a break to play.

They each choose their avatars, which most of them by the name, you don’t know what your avatar will be male or female. That becomes what should have been a funny part, but after the trailer being shown so many times between the debut of it and the release of the movie it falls flat. Although I do like Jack Black in this, but then Kevin Hart is always a fire cracker you can’t help but love.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald

2018       PG-13        2:14      adventure Fantasy Family

Stars: Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler,Jude Law, johnny Depp,Zoë Kravitz ,Ezra Miller  (full cast)

So in my search for a poster image to use, I really didn’t care for any of them  but this caught my eye, however it was for a comic con but what a great (collectible) poster or postcard it would have made for the movie.

Is it just me, or does it always seem the Potterverse has a rain storm during chases?

This one seemed less about the beasts and more of a political drama, however we do meet some new creatures and old, our previous Niffler friend is back with more fun. As Doublemint gum used to use “Double Your Pleasure Double Your Fun

After seeing this and watching (I think it was) ‘Crikey!’ it’s the Irwins; I’ve come to figure out or so I believe Nifflers are a furry sort of Echidna and something else but can’t recall that other similarity right now. Maybe it’s like a hamster or some other rodent that is like a pack rat.

There was some Bearded dragon/Thorny Devil looking lizard in the beginning.

Maledictus to remind you- in short is Nagini. full definition is a female individual who was a carrier of a blood curse that would eventually lead her to turn into a beast permanently. The curse was carried from birth and was passed down from mother to daughter.

We learn early in the movie that Albus Dumbledore was not the only in his family to have a Phoenix.

Dumbledores’ have a special connection with phoenixes.

Something about Phoenixes coming to the aid of the family.

(really do wish they would put a card on screen telling you what each beast is, or at least have some promotional collector cards to give out  for those that don’t have a great memory for have the visual identification. (I wish they would make an actual book that looks like the one in the movies. I think there’s a new book that has images of all the animals so I have to see if I can find that. Not sure if this is it or not  The Case of Beasts–Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them

This IS an Illustrated version of the Fantastic Beasts ‘text’ book

This below I think it was called  a Tso  or Tao  I would have to look through my own Beast Book and see if there’s some art for this one in it.

as well as this  Puffer lion or Lion Puffer as I called it They showed a kelpie which is basically A giant seahorse

Here’s a page with some Fantasitc Beasts from both Movies.

WHOA! Was that a dragon with many heads or a few dragons? Sorry I love dragons!

ooh that looks pretty; just got the goosebumps, that looks like the fire from the Tri-wizard cup.

Definitely not as good as the first of the series. I am mildly disappointed with it.

I do need to say, media outlets need to shut up about some of the things (even if JK Rowling gives approval on a ‘spoiler’)

Now some of you may remember a Certain Wizard mentioned in the first Harry Potter Book/Film. That said wizard I had heard was supposed to be in the movie.  Now something like that, maybe even a bit minor should not have been revealed. As soon as I saw the guy I knew who it was supposed to be. (When you see them even if you didn’t hear of this famous ‘wizard’ you should know who it is if You read or watched the books. (especially considering they seem to be on constant loop on Syfy channel the past 2 months (October & November) oh wait about that… still showing and its now December!!

In the movie we learn that of which the characters think who Credence is, and I will say no more other than; (and I’m not sure why but) I was thinking somehow related to Grindewald.  He seemed enamored with the boy, but knew he was very powerful or may be the very powerful wizard they are looking for.

Now even though I was a bit disappointed with maybe a quarter or half of the movie,  (there’s a stretch where I got bored) I’ve got a secret about Credence Barebone which made it all worth it.

So if your movie theater has waiters that wait on you… don’t order when you get there… wait until at least the beginning of the movie comes on. I ordered my goodies the moment I sat)

Good thing I went matinee time, as full price to me would not be worth it. Though maybe it would take me another watch or 2 to warm up to it.

Summer of Netflix

While I was looking after my Aunt’s house in July I  started my Netflix summer vacation. Trying to binge as many of the original shows and some movies as possible.  I still have many others (like some of the Marvel series to watch but I’m not going to get through everything by the first week of October. I thought I’d also re-watch the first 3 seasons of American Horror Story, as Season 8 deals with Murder house & Coven. Also watched the first 3 seasons of Goosebumps (a show I enjoyed in my teens, I’ll be working on a classic Cuts for that)

I’ve temporarily canceled streaming as the regular fall shows are starting to come back will pick up watching the rest during the holiday hiatus so I don’t have to deal with all those holiday repeats. Speaking of which, I always wonders…..WHY are there not more Jewish, Kwanzaa, Yule/solstice stories? And WHY are those that celebrate these (and others that are not Christmas) not making a big fuss of not having their own holiday entertainment?

Anyway so this is one extra long post. Hope you enjoy

Here are my recommendations,  (some are links to the individual review)

The Worst Witch

Yes like the movie from the 80s that starred Charlotte Rae and Fairuza Baulk.See the source image

I think there’s also another series but not sure when it was made but I would guess that was on a BBC station. While doing the work up on this  I found out the stories were originally novels by Jill Murphy, the first of which ‘The Worst Witch’ was published in 1974.

They have some scenes that are similar to the movie but usually have something a little different to them. And now I know why Snape always seemed so familiar in the Harry potter Movies… I swear J.K. Rowling had to have been inspired by Miss Hartbroom from this show for Snape or they had to be related! lol. In the series I’ve seen her do a few of Alan Rickman’s Snape mannerisms, and she teaches potions too!  So far I do still hold a special place in my heart for the 80s movie which I love watching around Halloween, but this I’d have to say is a decent reboot

A series of Unfortunate Events

The Netflix show  A series of Unfortunate Events is based on the series of books by Lemony Snicket.

I think I’ve read all but the last couple of stories,  (though being its been awhile I may have finished the whole series and just do not remember for sure the last one I had purchased)

If you want to give the book series a try… I’ve included links at the end.

As far as the 2004 Movie adaptation misfire of the books goes, don’t even waste your time! It’s not worth it and it was a mess! Its more cheery, they squeezed a multitude of the books, the first three or four in the one movie, and that’s where the poop emoji was born! Also Jim Carrey was too cheesy.

When I heard Neil Patrick Harris was going to play the dastardly despicable Count Olaf I knew he would do a great job with all the disguises so he’d do the villain and most importantly the Fans proud. Zi Approved TV series

The first season is an 8-part series which covers the first four books. Each book is covered within two episodes, and listed on IMDB as a Comedy, adventure, Drama
