June Bugs (News)

Sorry for the late News post, the laptop was accidentally sent to the Flip Flop Repair shop instead of the repair shop but in a sense I can see the mistake, mine flips and flops as its both laptop and tablet… Another thing is my cat has not been well and we may be at the Vet as I speak so she no longer has to suffer,  Though I hope the vet will tell us there’s a chance she can get better…

The first Avengers 4 synopsis is here… and suddenly I don’t feel so good

The Terror

By the way the featured image above looks, it reminds me of the posters for ‘The Thing‘ back in the 1980s. Could that be a hint to what we should expect?

Adapted from The book by Dan Simmons  The Terror: A Novel by [Simmons, Dan]

1846 A Royal Navy Expedition discovers a seemingly unseen predator in their search for the Artic’s Northwest Passage 200 miles away. They think it a very cunning polar bear, but just might be something bigger, and undiscovered.  The ships of the expedition are the Erebus (wasn’t that the name of the Vampire Bible in Blade?) and ahem.. Terror.

We open to a couple of text scenes one of which is “last seen by European whalers in Baffin Bay awaiting good condition to enter the Arctic Labyrinth”  then what I’m guessing is the aftermath of the events. Some Naval men speaking with an Eskimo, who is not only trying to relay a message left with him by the Captain (Francis)they call ‘A’Gluka’ but also trying to explain what happened to them, how or by what. ‘made of muscles and spells’ (not sure if he said walks on 2 and fours or eats on 2 and 4s.

When you start seeing your compass go loopy, it’s time to reassess your plans or at least have a plan B for direction. The first episode has a really nice looking, not sure if I should call it a rainbow but some sort of light anomaly in the sky.  When they hit some ice,I love how the  floating ice looks like lily pads.

As they race to beat the pack ice, one of the inhabitants of the ships falls ill and has an hallucination, or is it more of a forewarning, a premonition of sorts? Stuck, a group is sent to find some sort of help.

The group experiences hail the nice of baseballs (or maybe it was tennis). The predatory being attacks and I did catch a glimpse of a shadow coming out of the ice wall, it could be a very big Polar Bear or Wolf (talk about hunting tales making things bigger than what they are.. this is not one of them).

The show plays on suspense more than scares which is a good thing and hopefully, we’ll get a nice climatic reveal. Maybe even a scare for those of us that would like one. My only problem is that they aired the show at the end of the winter instead of July or August when we need to look at some cooling, calming ice and snowscapes. (if I could I’d live there. talk about picturesque. I wouldn’t mind seeing that out my window in the morning.

Scoobynatural (Supernatural gets animated)

When I heard that there would be an animated Supernatural episode, I was like ok cool it will be the silly episode of the season.  was thinking lots of laughs along the lines of the ‘Changing CHannels’ episode. When I heard it having Scoobydoo in it I went all geeky and turned back to my Saturday Morning Cartoon self.

As far as the trailer goes, it looks like a legitimate cartoon made the old fashion way with those old ‘cells’ and color and not with a computer. If it were made that way I would be surprised. For me the only cartoon that has been cool as CG was Jimmy Neutron, although I have seen some new Voltron (force?) where its a cartoon but then when they make Voltron its CG which looks better and looks more like a robot. (the Garfield ‘cartoon’ made with CG looks like crap, and so does Alvin and the Chipmunks. If you want to enhance the experience like the Voltron I previously explained, that’s cool. All else, has no place other than thrown in one of the urns above and burned to ash!

Roseanne revival

The original series ran from 1988 – 1997. It is one of the shows I am so glad they brought back  (yes I know I should be strung up and tortured for saying that, but sometimes, I do wish for curiosity sake or because I really miss ‘family)’. Now I’ve been watching the old episodes on one of the tv stations when I catch it on and aside from the 90s fashion, they are still funny. Ones I have seen umpteen times I still laughed at.

The coming attractions for the reboot sounded like Connor clan, just older. Yes the original cast is back even double Becky! Which there is a joke in the pilot episode of the new 2018 reboot. However, in the pilot of the reboot I did miss Johnny Galecki and Mark. In the new series, Darlene is I forget if its divorced or separated from David but he will be back for an episode however being as the actor Glenn Quinn that played Mark died in 2002, Mark is dead on the show. I didn’t hear how Mark supposedly died yet though.

When is a ‘remake’ Ok?

and the difference between Remakes, Reboots, and updates.

With many movies from the past like Point Break, Nightmare on Elm Street or Ghostbusters (and some too soon like Spider-man) get one of the three treatments; to which some I don’t know if you’d say were an improvement but some remakes & updates come out to varying degrees of favor and hatred.

I don’t recall what was the first year all these remakes and updates started but I think it was the early 2000s (though I am sure the 90’s even had some as well but was not as vast as it is now.)  There are certain movies we love and just can’t bare to see a different cast or the original being ruined by one of these treatments. Ghostbusters, for instance, shot in the practical age of special FX I think the originals still stand fairly well enough, so if anything and I guess because the sequel was not much liked why not have just set this one up as another sequel instead of ‘rebooting’ the series with what may be a remake or update (or a cross between the 2)

Here I hope to try to clear up the difference between each (or at least in my own view) and figure out a way to decipher when

(and even how) it should be made.  Which is how I’d like to start this and let’s see if I can explain the difference between each.
