Cult of Chucky

2017    Rated R     Horror,   1:30   Alex Vincent, Fiona Dourif, Zak Santiago, Jennifer Tilly

So ANy’s all grown up and has apparently gotten a head of the game. (All Puns intended) Oh wow! this is The original Andy from the very first movie!

Nica having spent 4 years in an asylum for the criminally insane and was made to believe she, NOT Chucky murdered her entire family. WTF! If Chucky’s head is served on a platter How is a new doll also possessed? (Did I miss a movie?)  There’s a part or 2 I got that Nightmare on Elm street feeling though Nightmare 3 was also in a mental health facility.

Oh now its not just a doll but is he possessing people too?  Why would Andy send out another doll that’s evil? Or is it evil?  I don’t know but for a sequel honestly it was just nice to visit an old friend! Er Frenemy? Speaking of which the Halloween Issue of Entertainment Weekly has an ‘Interview’ with Chucky

Chucky #1 “It behooves us to watch our step”

Chucky #2  “Behooves, listen to you, You sound like Hannibal Lechter. Can’t Belive they cancled that show”

There may be times it was a bit silly and a little Nightmare on Elm street like in parts maybe that’s why I enjoyed it.

I’d say give it a watch, it’s the right time of year for it!

Just a note. there’s  was an  UNRated version on the disk

It comes at night

2017, R 1:31  BR  Joel Edgerton   IMDB

So what comes at night? Something tells me this is just their anxiety and fears playing tricks on them.

The netflix sleeve (yes I use DVD) says “A malevolent force terrorizes the world outside’  really I never saw that force, or being.

The characters I find poorly written, sorry Joel I don’t mind you being the star but if this was the movie you were writing, babe you need to evolve on your characters. The wife and son seem to barely talk there seems to be no love between he and the wife. There’s not much to tell about anyone nor do any of them seem to have any personality.

The only personality is the house.

What comes at night,…..is

apparently is this sickness/disease that I’m guessing is the reason there is hardly anyone around. The movie was interesting in the beginning but as it goes on it loses its momentum. It just becomes a tedious ‘routine’.

I appreciate Joel’s effort and I do love watching Edgerton’s movies acting or written by but after (I think) an hour, (give or take) is when the drop off happened.  The Not quite horror more thriller who’s mystery stunk and went kabo0m…

The Mechanic: Resurrection

2016  R 1:39  Blu-ray  Jason Statham Jessica Alba

Arthur Bishop has sworn off his profession as a contract killer. An old nemisis abducts his new girlfriend and he must complete a string of 3 hits in order to save her.

Nothing to really write home about, its just your average Statham stereotypical typecasted movie. Everything worth seeing was in the trailers!  Although a couple of my favorites (I don’t remember from the trailer)  was the Face Plant into the grill and yes, complete with scorch marks! Then there was a the guy he used to shield himself from the grenade which he put on the front of the guy.

Very predictable

unless you are planning to watch a Statham marathon…don’t bother

Before I wake

2016,   PG-13   Kate Bosworth,  Thomas Jane,Jacob Tremblay

IMDB

So I wanted to see this when I first saw the trailers. I couldn’t get it from Netflix, and I can’t afford to buy digital movies unless I know I already like them and they are too much to rent in my point of view. I have an app called Stream Dor  I got through my amazon

Product Details

kindle. Then it was free now they charge 1.99 but  find it worth the price. as usually when I can’t find a movie on netflix, this app has it, Old or semi new. If they don’t its only a matter of time (you could always let them know you are looking for certain movies.) Also if you are learning another language, you can watch movies in other languages on here!  purchase the app here

Which is what I did to watch it. The copy I found was in German (or something that sounded like it) Frankly you can figure out what they are saying even if you only know a few phrases in a language. I find it interesting to hear the different languages around the world. Plus you may learn something. Sadly there were no subtitles on this one of any sort.

So this I think was similar in a way to another movie, or at least reminded me of another. A couple lose their son (I think he drowned in the tub) and they adopt a young boy who’s dreams and nightmares manifest. He dreams of their dead son and they end up able to hug him. It’s a solid manifestation. The boy’s biological mother (which I think was in that hung show with Jane) gave him u for adoption as she was sick. I believe she is the scary creature in the movie. I don’t scare easily but when this thing first (and maybe even the second time) showed up I think I may have given off a scared noise or maybe cuddled up to my pillow more.

Would it be have been worth seeing in the theater? Not likely. I did like the creature though. It was eerily creepy gave me a start at least. I think its worth at least one watch be sure to turn off the lights while you watch!

Stephen King’s It (2017)

This is part of my Classic Cut’s signature series where we look at an original movie (or franchise) and the new version.

Stephen King’s IT       (The Original)

So I get my wish to see the original before the new movie comes out

TV-14    3 hours 12 minutes  1990

Tim Curry, Jonathan Brandis, Seth Green, John Ritter, Richard Thomas, Annette O’Toole, Richard Masur, Dennis Christopher, Harry Anderson

I thought this was filmed/aired in the 80s  due to the styles of clothing of padded shoulders but IMDB has it as released in 1990. But then again who knows how long it took for them to film movies and series. So some parts may well have been filmed in the late 80s.

We start when the group of friends are already adults, and get calls from Michael who stayed in Maine because a girl has gone turned up, and not only that but Georgie’s photo at the site as well. Once they arrive back in town, they start to remember what happened 30 years ago.

As for Pennywise…aside from his bulbous head you could light a room with..heck a mansion or castle even… and those pointy teeth that if were any bigger could be impaled on…plus he can ‘shapeshift’ or at least make you think you see a loved one (I believe it’s only those that have already died that he can take their shape)  Pennywise really is not scary. I found Tim Curry’s portrayal a little camp or pardon the pun Clownish and after watching this I think Micheal Keaton used parts as inspiration when portraying Beetlejuice.

Now this is what you call a long movie, but I believe was shown in a couple of parts.

It’s a good story, something which you don’t get these days. I hear the remake’ will be as 2 movies the first when they are children and the 2nd when they are adults. (how the mini -series should have been done)

The Only Way To Get Through It Is To Remember That The Clown Is Bae In Real Life

13 facts probably didnt know pennywise

While the novel was written over 3 decades ago and the mini-series premiering over 20 years ago.

The First thing to know about the movie is  Its not a Remake,Redo or Reboot. A remake would entail using the 1990s mini-series as the source material.  This is of its own adapted from the book. Also they are both 2 separate entities.  What was able to be adapted to network or cable TV guidelines in 1990 would be different to what is is aloud today, however still there would be limitations if it were on  television. Honestly even if the 1990 mini series was made for the the theater, there is different regulations to what would be shown in the final edit. We would likely get a darker version now, then what could, should, would have been if it were made for big screen then.

So the 2017 movie should be a better adaptation of the book (though I have not read it yet). Honestly as far as watching the Mini-series I was a little confused at first when the flashbacks kept coming up. At first it felt as tho it was 2 different stories. The way the story was told I thought the Losers club as adults were the parents and their kids were the losers club. then I figured it out.. but that was the way it came off to me.

I think a re-adaptation was wise and that they have done it as a movie having a first part as the subtitle notes will obviously be focusing on the part with the young children.  When in the original I think we meet the adult versions (or a few of them) first then get flashbacks to their traumatic time when Pennywise takes one of the kids younger siblings this time it will be over the summer of 1989.

The re-adaptation I’d say was well timed with the Regan Era nostalgia of Netflix’s Stranger Things, and Ernest Cline’s  Ready Player One Novel with a movie adaptation on the way for March 2018. (read the book first! I LOVED it!  You can find a review on this blog as well as I made a ‘database’ for all the pop culture mentions) The movie should be darker than what would have been aloud in the 1990’s or even on tv today.  Even if it were a remake or reboot as I said the timing is right. unlike how quickly Spiderman  was rebooted after Tobey Maguire.3 Way too soon. I am waiting to see the new one.

Another reason why I think it needed a form of update, to me Tim Curry’s Pennywise came off too Clowny (forgive the pun… but I’m not afraid of them, I just never liked them even when I was little, they to me are more annoying than funny. Also I’d say a bit campy if not the performance then overall.

Now as part of the Skarsgard family we know Bill has got the looks and like brother Alex he played a vampire (half) on Netflix’s hemlock Grove, but the guy can be quite scary as well and that is without the make-up! He can make some really sinister faces, and that thing Pennywise does with his eyes, is basically Billy’s ‘Stupid human pet trick’ that wasn’t Computer FX people.

I saw this right after American Assassin in the theater (which I enjoyed) as soon as credits rolled, I got up and went into the IT theater.  I thought Alamo put clips shows on before all the movies, but there’s now been a few there hasn’t. Not sure if it was because of day and time or just that sort of movie. Sadly I missed what they had of the clips montage. I made it in for the last one. It was from India which I can only guess was their version of (the original) IT. There was a kid by a pool and saw some clown.

This one is definitely more menacing, and scarier. The 90s mini-series is a mouse compared to this one! Oh holy Hel was that Jaws?!!?!?!? Yeah like I said; definitely more menacing and scarier! During a lighthearted (and possible red faced moment for those who went through the phase) we have an ironic gag, the new kid in school (although they graduated today) is listening to New Kids on the Block! He and the girl have a NKOTB pun-ny song jokes.

They do a good job of mixing the scary with some funny as well, which is good as this had a darker tone and felt more intense than the mini-series. Though this is not to be compared to the original as they are 2 separate entities from 2 different eras and both based on the novel. Only with a movie could you give the novel a proper adaptation.

The girl reminds me of Amy Adams which there is a sort of joke  in the movie about.

Oh my I haven’t heard the song Busta Move (I think by Young MC)  in so long I nearly screamed!  The ‘monster’ house (or as destination channel calls it…Zombie house) looks familiar, I think I saw something that said what it was seen in before, like maybe it was the original house in the Munsters or something.

That is weird Bill Sakrsgard can do that thing with his eyes, can make them move to the upper corners of his eyes. No VFX used

The bathroom scene with the sink I think was more sevre than the TV version and kind of reminded me of Johnny Depp in Nightmare on Elm street.

YES! Anthrax’s Anti-social and a kid wearing my favorite Metallica shirt “Metal up your Ass”

Well that was some Jeepers Creepers like crap there. A junk pile ‘mobile’ . You know that painting in Ghostbusters 2? The Creepy one in the Museum? Well there’s a scene Where PennyWise looks like that painting.

By the end of the movie my refills of soda caught up with me. I had to pee so bad , that if this didn’t literally scare it out of me, nothing will. (However a couple parts I found funny I nearly had an accident. I had to try for an hour not to laugh or anything else.

So people are finally comparing Pennywise to Freddy Kreuger.. really? Did anyone do that when the book came out (I have yet to read it) or when the tv-movie was? Because I saw it from the first time I watched the movie!~ The only thing is Pennywise is an alien of some sort, Freddy was a ‘real’ man in that story. There were some parts in the movie that did seem similar to those in the Nightmare on Elm st. series

Have to love he kid in the glasses.. He’s got to be the one that becomes the comedian or whatever played by Harry Anderson in the TV movie (yep same character name.) He was the one that gave me a few laughs not to mention maybe said the things the audience all thought.

“He’s Leaking Hamburger helper”

I am very happy they did the movie as the story of the kids first encounter with Pennywise. I’m sure i mentioned it before, and I thought those flashbacks in the TV adaptation took away from the story. They were just distracting especially the way they did them. I thought the kids and the adults (until I noticed the same names in both) were in the same time. That the kids were the adults children. They should have done some of the story of the young kids first for a bit. However now that this movie is out I’d rather re-watch this over and over again compared to the tv adaptation. (Honestly thank goodness I had DVR’d it while I was looking after my aunt’s cats and hosue while they were away cause I might have fallen asleep if I had not.)

Going to have to look up that AIRWOLF shirt. Sounds familiar but I can’t remember if it was TV or movie. (turns out both)

I can confidently say that the new Pennywise is one of the best movie monsters since the ’80s, driven by a gripping performance from Skarsgård that is downright Oscar-worthy. Comparisons have been made to Heath Ledger’s portrayal of The Joker, and you won’t find me disagreeing.” – John Squires of Bloody Disgusting

(I grew up near an Elm street so I’ll give him 2nd best. But Bill did a great job! Wonder if he’ll help me out on halloween! )

7 clowns more ‘terrifying’ than Pennywise

Here’s a review I haven’t even watched  nor read I don’t know if they liked it or not I do this so you know I am being fair   Here’s Movie Babble’s review & a video review

It achieves horror greatness as pennywise becomes horror icon for the ages

(not sure about that as Freddy Kreuger still seems to be making an impression on the new generations of horror fans but in the creepy clown aspect I’d agree (with the American Horror Story one following in its wake)

Bloodnight: Legend of Mary Hatchet

2009   R   1:23  Horror  Cast

I missed some of the beginning but in short Mary Hatches ends up in Kings Park Asylum in Long Island is raped by an orderly or guard has the kid and is told it died.

There’s a local holiday ‘celebrating’ the night she killed everyone called ‘Blood Night’. It seems to be celebrated as  Halloween once was with throwing eggs, Toilet (TP ing) Papering and whatever they do with the tampons. She had some condition with her menstrual cycle (happens to often or is excessive)  and makes her go Psycho.

Its basically the average fare for this sort.
