The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Starring Emile Hirsch & Brian Cox

This was a cool horror mystery. Just don’t watch if you are squeamish, after all they are performing an autopsy.

This autopsy reveals a treasure chest (all puns intended) of odd items.

While yes for a time that is all it is with a sprinkling of what comes off as accidents and carelessness. The father bossing his son around which seems to make him nervous and have a few more clumsy moments. After a time things become clear, it’s not mistakes or some coincidence (way too many weird things happen) I thought there was someone there, like maybe somehow the person who killed ‘Jane Doe’ followed the body to the morgue and is now trying to ruin the evidence, while somehow having quiet Ninja skills.

There’s a little creepy and maybe a little bit of your hair standing on end.

I oddly liked it and at least there were breaks from seeing the same room the whole movie. (Like Phonebooth where it was Colin Ferrell in a phone booth the WHOLE movie. boring) Also once things got a little freaky I wasn’t sure but I thought I had seen the draws for the bodies all open without the bodies!!!

I shall finish on that note. There’s a bit of a twist that I didn’t see coming which is probably the reason I liked it.

The following list has Not only ruins plot twists but the ending as well. Please do not read unless you have already seen the movie or are just not interested in it.

Is your House Haunted

Sept 19 – october 17.
Is Your House Haunted?: Poltergeists, Ghosts or Bad WiringIs Your House Haunted?: Poltergeists, Ghosts or Bad Wiring by Debi Chestnut

Picked this up one year on sale at Barnes and Nobles. I bought it as I was hoping it would be good for research as well as reference. Much of it I knew and at the same time much of it I do not stand by.

Some of the information i found to be mixed with what I’ve known though the years which I found more books and paranormal groups and ‘psychics’ have said.

I will say there is a section on how to help your child, FAQs When and where to get help and how to know if you should hire that group or not. Also how to tell if your house is haunted or if it’s ‘just the wiring’.

As I was going to write much of the information I knew on my Ghost/spirits page, I highlighted some of the helpful stuff from the book on the blog page as I more or less knew most of it already but was also reading it as research. (like finding a paranormal group to help) Also it gave me a sort of outline to note and ways that helped be better define types of spirits, and the different between what a ghost is an what a spirit is.. yes they are 2 different things.

Besides we can’t have people playing with Ouija boards and holding seances this time (october) of year, the veil between the living and the dead is too thin.

As mentioned I used some of the information for reference on my Halloween Ghost page…

Midnight Texas

NBC

Based on the series from Charlaine Harris   this supernatural drama stars

Francois Arnaud,         Manfred                                            Psychic/medium

After someone starts coming after him, he moves to Midnight  on his dead grandmas’s Xylda instructions  (played by Joanne Camp) who of course was also psychic and from a line of gypsies. The longer he stays in Midnight the more and more spirits he sees and helps the Midnighters help solve ‘cases’

Dylan Bruce            as              Bobo                                                   ?

All american  guy who owns the pawn shop and harboring some secret. he never talks about his past so what is he running from? Talk about skeletons in the closet… this guy all i know is he has weapons cache. I don’t know if he’s human or a supernatural and we do learn something of his past life having to do with his family.

Parisa Fitz-Henley          Fiji                                                    Witch

Owner of the new-age/wiccan  store is open hearted wide range of magical skills and manipulating objects as well as making potions. She owns a ginger tabby cat which you very much need to pay attention to at the end of the first epiosde. He’s sprinkled in others but I am very interested in why the cat talks. Was it a person that was  turned into a cat or her familiar? She and Bobo are besties but it seems she wants more.

Arielle Kebbel                   Olivia                                                     Human

IN relationship with the vampire she is the protector and when not protecting Midnight is an assassin with a closet to kill for! (really weapons cache/panic room and thensome!)

Jason Lewis                       Joe                                                           Fallen Angel

Towns tattoo artist  who arrived here 1000 years ago and hiding out with husband ‘chuy’ (bernardo Saracino) who so far seems human but turns out (especially later episode) he’s apparently not.

 Peter Mensah         Lemuel                                                     vampire

The vampire with the electric blue eyes. He feeds on blood but mostly is a Psi vampire which means he feeds on energy and emotions of humans.

Sarah Ramos,          Creek                                                         Human

I think she grew up in Midnight and wants to be a writer. Has what sounds like an abusive or maybe he’s just a drunk.Stays with the over protective father to protect her little brother and starts dating Manfred.

Yul Vazquez,          Rev. Emilio Sheehan                                    were tiger

in this small town he mostly just marries  and counsels folks and tends to the pet cemetery.  Olivia locks him away in the church cellar  around the full moon.

In all Honesty I think I started watching in part because I miss True Blood for one, and 2 it’s a summer show so it sort of substitutes for Supernatural on the CW, but in an opposite way. I like the characters that some are mysterious and you don’t know if a couple are or not human. Then there’s those we know are human (or are sure they are) but are still very mysterious.

Not sure how it’s done ratings wise, I don’t pay any attention to them because there’s so many different outlets to watch ‘TV’ I’m not sure if they are able to even keep track of ratings between actual live television viewing, DVR and then watching on a streaming site (and if they count on demand and free on demand views as well)

Also to me the rating has  nothing to do with how good the show actually is.(For instance on Rotten tomatoes you can rate something as ‘certified fresh’ months or years before the title is even out. usually the story etc is NOT fresh so they need to ‘re-brand’ that option however that work be it the users of the site that make it so or the critics who really know nothing! )

American Gods … meet Neil Gaiman’s deities

Kristen Chenoweth, Gillian Anderson,Ian McShane, Peter Stormare, Orlando Jones, Pablo Schreiber, CorbinBernsen, Yetide Badaki,  Emily Browning, Bruce Langly, Ricky Whittle, Crispin Glover, Dane Cooke, Jeremy Davies

adapted from the New York best seller that was first published back in 2001 (and translated into 33 languages)

I’m not sure if this show sounds interesting to me, though when  saw a book titled of which (not sure if it was by Gaiman) but was interested in that, until I found out it was just a story, I a pile of reading books here I don’t need to add to it.

Its basically ‘What if America Created it’s own hierarchy of Gods born fro

m and nourished by the country’s obsessions like Technology.

The old gods who were brought to American shores by the Immigrants  find themselves scrambling to be remembered in a faithless America.

How to get a date with a vampire

Paranormal Fiction humor

This came out when I was either in my last year of Junior High or my first year of high school. I would stare at it every time I went into Walden-books, hoping it would be on sale and I could afford it (on my allowance…do kids still get those?)

You can tell just by what the female cover model is wearing that it’s from late 80s or early 90s, so now I have officially just put a date on myself.

So one day in my travels I came across a copy in the Goodwill store. You would think I found a buried treasure! I held onto the book like someone was gonna steal it from and and I’d have to fight for it!

“Vampires are everywhere, if you know where to look, and they are yours for the taking, if you know what to do”

The books tells you How to spot a vampire, Breaking the ice as well as their type and I don’t mean blood type, How to meet the family and so on. Oh yeah and they seem to have this natural affinity for the damaged and fragile.

The writing had a nice flow except when the author had to put some broken French or Italian in there while mentioning some wine or something.. I enjoyed the book, but I think I would have more so when I was younger.

as I sort of mentioned the time it came out (the book says ©1990) it is a bit dated and I wish an update could be done with the way the dating scene is now. I read a couple of the GoodReads comments and no one seemed to get the humor, unless it was all those parts with the broken language. I see the humor part being it is a guide to dating  vampires. I know they were probably actually looking for jokes within the writing which I guess, like me, you just need to be a ‘Vampire girl’ to get the humor!  (as my friends sit stone faced in movie theaters during a vampire movie like Blade… and I’m the one laughing at the jokes and they have no clue why its funny!

(no I’m not saying I stalk the night in search of blood, I have just always gotten ‘Vampire humor’ you know like there’s English humor or ironic humor and morbid humor…yep! I’m the one that laughs at the morbid, ironic Vampire humor! )

I had no expectations of the book which was good, I mean how good can this sort be, especially getting it decades after it was written? I will be saving it for another read in the future and putting it with my vampire book collection!(call me a Vampirologist!?!?)

I also would have appreciated her making up ‘Vampire zodiac signs’ as she phrased that the zodiac signs were different instead of just libra its ‘the libra vampire) what she wrote for those…. (well I only read my scorpio one) sounds exactly like the real scorpio traits! Why not make something up (and be actually original) and make up some up like make up constellations or just use ones that aren’t as popular :::checks out my planisphere) like Phoenix and Draco … woujld be PERFECT for  vampire a  zodiac signs!) mmm maybe that’s an idea for something in my Vampire Bible  (you can find it on ZodiacImmortal.wordpress.com  There’s a post but the PAGE in the menu is the one you really want!)

The Darkness

This was supposedly based on real life events. A malignant spirit  returns with the Taylor family who was vacationing at the Grand Canyon where their autistic son Mike  finds some stones with Native pictographs on them.

Soon after the family returns home  there are some odd occurrences  and their daughter gets ‘sick’. The son sees someone or something he calls Jenny, and of course as usual the un-explainable things escalate

I will give it one thing where I would think to be no suspense there was a bit there, though it was  not to the point of intensity you want to scream or jump if there’s a loud noise. So for that I add a a few points but minus a bunch on the whole native legend part (its something that is over used, that it feels more aImage result for The Darkness Movie 2016 cop out and If a story is based on a building built on a Native Burial ground or some sort of sacred ground, then  it’s just cookie cutter… change the characters names, the setting and they are basically all the same)

Another thing I will give it a points boost for, I don’t remember ever seeing an autistic child portrayed in a movie. Also I thought they didn’t speak,(or very rarely)  but then I met someone that was and he spoke fairly well.

Classic Cuts ~ Nightmare On Elm Street

So Syfy channel had a TGI-Freddy Marathon on Friday the 13th (may 2016) and I made it a point to watch.

I thought while doing so I’d work on one of my new ‘columns’ called ‘Classic Cuts’  (well the title is best for slasher movies like this)  which reviews an entire franchise in this case, Brand (Marvel)  or stand alone film (like Goonies)  so

Whatever You do, don’t fall asleep

and WELCOME to nightmare_on_elm_street15

This is one of my favorite franchises, plus I lived one street over from Elm as a kid. I did however wonder why they weren’t doing a Friday the 13th marathon? But I thought why not do an over view of the series!

New line Cinema presents ….

A Nightmare on Elm Street

1984      screen play written by Wes Craven (RIP)     90- minutes      Rated R

Horror, Slasher  stars   Heather Langenkamp , Robert Englund, John Saxon, Johnny Depp

Image result for a nightmare on Elm stI think because of the first and maybe second movies I was never comfortable with unfinished basements, the one that was in the house I grew up in (the street over from Elm) well it was a big basement from what I remember. I remember the big water heater and the one thing I hated was if we had to change a blown fuse, we had to pass by it. There were a few times I was tempted to go over to it and try to look in it, but the basement would spook me out.

I don’t know who he is but he’s burned, wears a red & green sweater , this funny hat and knives like fingernails

-Nancy

I think one of the great things about the movie was it came with that morbid, haunting nursery rhyme of 1…2.. Freddy’s coming for you.  Of the series I think the first and their movies were the best. They are at least my favorites. I like how in the first he’s scary and serious then in the 3rd he starts  to become somewhat a comedian! The 2nd in the series well as my friend Rich would say  “belongs in the bog of eternal stench”

With the poor 2010 update (remake/reboot..whatever you want to catalog it as) That combined with original and some of the sequel’s storylines, still couldn’t help it, but then  they ruined all the best parts  of the original movie like Johnny Depp’s Character Glenn’s death.
