Maze Runner

Sci-fi, Thriller, Mystery   1:53

I’m going to have to re-watch the first one, as I thought I had posted a review for it, but it came out the same year I started this blog.

I can tell you I remember the lush green glade, and those things in the maze as well as a scene after.

I’ll post whenever I catch it again.

My original Maze Runner Scorch Trials review

2015 PG-13  2:12

So this was my 2nd time watching because it was so long ago that I saw the movie and the Death Cure came out (getting to that in a bit)See the source image

I don’t remember hearing or seeing anything about solar flares while watching it the 2nd time. They are taken to what is supposed to be a way station, where some never leave. There’s  also some things in cylindrical tanks that remind me of a nautilus.

There’s some zombie like people but movie too fast to be zombies, but I have yet to hear what the virus in this is called. Its sort of seems like the rage virus of 28 days later.

The group is looking for (i think it was) the Red hand (some rebellion sounding name)

There’s nothing really in it that is memorable like the maze and ‘glade’ of the first movie. All I remember is that guy that plays little finger from Game of Thrones. Does he play an ass in everything he’s in? (Not sure if you’d call him that in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword  but maybe more a ‘donkey’ ass  (a minor side version compared to his character in this, and as for his GOT character he’s a manipulative one so that would be the in-between version of these two)

The only thing really memorable to me (right now) is that the person who found a way to delay the ‘virus’ well let’s just say it kills a bit of hope for a possible cure.  I Haven’t read the books, but I’d hope there’s something better in this book than the movie, which as I said in the first review seemed like filler. The only semi-memorable part was the storm coming in, but then again was watching this while we were having a rainstorm which was thunder and lightning, but now way as spooky and as scary as this one.But I do love when something I’m watching and life sort of coincide.

Death Cure

2018  2;22

Soo much better than that sophomore slump in the scorch.

They’ve got one last chance to find a cure for the ‘flare’ pandemic. They call those without immunity to it cranks (yeah I guess they do look like drug addicts in a way)

Thomas employs a daring strategy in the face-off against Wckd (Wicked) the organization doing the experiments for a cure.

Meanwhile, Brenda is still doing well on that concoction made from Thomas’ blood, no side effects and so far has not needed a booster.

I think this has plenty of elements to interest all genre fans.

For fans of the first movie, there’s a surprise appearance, that even I was surprised as once I saw I remembered what happened to them in one of the previous movies.

I very much enjoyed one ‘stunt’ toward the end of the movie. I’ll just say Bus + Giant Crane = awesome!

2017         R        2hr       stars Margot Robbie and Sebastian Stan

Drama, comedy, based on true events

This biopic of Figure skater Tonya Harding and the 1994 Winter Olympics assault on Nancy Kerrigan.

I think this was during my senior year of high school or maybe the first winter I had infinite snow days.

This is supposed to be ‘based on irony-free wildly contradicting  totally true interviews with Tonya Harding, Jeff Gillooly (what a silly name that man has)  Continue reading

The Terror

By the way the featured image above looks, it reminds me of the posters for ‘The Thing‘ back in the 1980s. Could that be a hint to what we should expect?

AMC   Monday’s @ 9pm est  (10 ep)      Based on true events

Period Drama, Mystery, a tiny bit of horror

stars Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, Ciarán Hinds, Paul Ready, Nive Nielsen , Adam Nagaitis , Tom Weston- Jones  imdb

Adapted from The book by Dan Simmons  The Terror: A Novel by [Simmons, Dan]

1846 A Royal Navy Expedition discovers a seemingly unseen predator in their search for the Artic’s Northwest Passage 200 miles away. They think it a very cunning polar bear, but just might be something bigger, and undiscovered.  The ships of the expedition are the Erebus (wasn’t that the name of the Vampire Bible in Blade?) and ahem.. Terror.

We open to a couple of text scenes one of which is “last seen by European whalers in Baffin Bay awaiting good condition to enter the Arctic Labyrinth”  then what I’m guessing is the aftermath of the events. Some Naval men speaking with an Eskimo, who is not only trying to relay a message left with him by the Captain (Francis)they call ‘A’Gluka’ but also trying to explain what happened to them, how or by what. ‘made of muscles and spells’ (not sure if he said walks on 2 and fours or eats on 2 and 4s.

When you start seeing your compass go loopy, it’s time to reassess your plans or at least have a plan B for direction. The first episode has a really nice looking, not sure if I should call it a rainbow but some sort of light anomaly in the sky.  When they hit some ice,I love how the  floating ice looks like lily pads.

As they race to beat the pack ice, one of the inhabitants of the ships falls ill and has an hallucination, or is it more of a forewarning, a premonition of sorts? Stuck, a group is sent to find some sort of help.

The group experiences hail the nice of baseballs (or maybe it was tennis). The predatory being attacks and I did catch a glimpse of a shadow coming out of the ice wall, it could be a very big Polar Bear or Wolf (talk about hunting tales making things bigger than what they are.. this is not one of them).

The show plays on suspense more than scares which is a good thing and hopefully, we’ll get a nice climatic reveal. Maybe even a scare for those of us that would like one. My only problem is that they aired the show at the end of the winter instead of July or August when we need to look at some cooling, calming ice and snowscapes. (if I could I’d live there. talk about picturesque. I wouldn’t mind seeing that out my window in the morning.

The Osiris Child

sci-fi  action adventure drama   2017   not rated   1:39 Kellan Lutz, Daniel MacPherson, Luke Ford, Isabel Lucas, Bren Foster

This sci-fi thriller is set in an unstable future where there’s another inhabited planet which has been or is being terraformed for humans.

Oh that’s a cool flyer not sure if I should call it a plane or what though. Kellan Lutz playSee the source images one of the prisoners that is set free from some accident. There is a big cover up about it by Exor, those in the sky as to what the prisoners were working on. They say the prisoners broke out and took hostages. To get rid of the threat the higher-ups decide to blow the area up. Lt. Kane (MacPherson) goes on a mission to save his daughter who is in the line of this attack.

Along the way there’s an attack by the monsters. Let’s just say some gnarly looking  not so Teenage ninjas but definitely mutant turtles on steroids.  I won’t even ruin it with including a picture.

I liked the landscapes and certain aspects of the movie. (rented from Netflix on disk) I wouldn’t say it was actually a good movie, not sure if I’d say its bad. It was one of those movies that was recommended by what  I watch and I saw Kellan Lutz in it and I jsut like hi in action roles. So if its your taste I think you’d like it otherwise to each his own. Though I do hope you will watch for the overall experience (especially if you have Blu-ray or if available on 4k)

Roseanne revival

The original series ran from 1988 – 1997. It is one of the shows I am so glad they brought back  (yes I know I should be strung up and tortured for saying that, but sometimes, I do wish for curiosity sake or because I really miss ‘family)’. Now I’ve been watching the old episodes on one of the tv stations when I catch it on and aside from the 90s fashion, they are still funny. Ones I have seen umpteen times I still laughed at.

The coming attractions for the reboot sounded like Connor clan, just older. Yes the original cast is back even double Becky! Which there is a joke in the pilot episode of the new 2018 reboot. However, in the pilot of the reboot I did miss Johnny Galecki and Mark. In the new series, Darlene is I forget if its divorced or separated from David but he will be back for an episode however being as the actor Glenn Quinn that played Mark died in 2002, Mark is dead on the show. I didn’t hear how Mark supposedly died yet though.

The Alienist

The Alienist is a mysterious turn of the century period Drama     starring   Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, Daniel Brühl

Mondays 9pm EST on TNT

The stars have been rarely if ever seen on the small screen.  Actually, I don’t think anyone of them has been aside from when their movies have aired.  Daniel Bruhl is Dr. Laszlo Kreizler an alienist, who may be an intuitively gifted doctor of criminal and child psychology. He is brusque and does not have a filter for brutal honesty, which is he works with the rich playboy Moore.   Evans plays John Moore who is an illustrator drawn into the doctor’s investigation from his gilded wealthy and empty life when Dr. Kreizler has him go check out a murder on the bridge. Dakota Fanning’s Sarah Howard is the (fictional) first woman to work with the New York police. She is the secretary to Commissioner Roosevelt (yes as in who was years away from becoming our president).  The three are enforcement outsiders with their own forensic methods, those of which we use today, however, they do not have official access to the case files which does not make things easy. Enter the brothers Lucas and Marcus Isaacson (played by Douglas Smith and Matthew Shear)  the brothers are I think were the coroners for NYPD but were ‘sidelined’ because they are Jewish.  They help the doctor by doing a post-mortem autopsy on a previous case and bring fresh ideas and a dose of comedic relief to the group.

Manhunt: unibomber

Discovery    8 part Limited series      IMDB page

Sam Worthington plays Jim ‘Fitz’  Fitzgerald

Paul Bettany as Ted Kazynski the unabomber

Chris Noth, Jane Lynch,Elizabeth Reaser

Jeremy Boob (who plays one in this a closed minded boob named)  Stan Cole

I sort of remember hearing the TV and radio news reports int he background of what was happening while I was in my teens (oops I just dated myself). Surprisingly the names involved sound familiar which is a surprise as I never listened, (Hey I was a teen with a life usually always just about back out the door the moment I come in… aside from any possible homework which I don’t remember having in H.s. and once out only came home to go to the bathroom or curfew.

While working the case Fitz is the only person that sees codes within the writing and gets so involved in the case he starts losing his family.  He’s the only one that sees the profile for the unibomber is beyond wrong. Of course there’s the close minded ‘boob’ (man I’m gonna have fun with tat actor’s name just feel bad for him for when he was in school!) who has had the FBI following the wrong lead for 2 years!  (Is it wrong for me to want to see the character lose his job?)

So I’m not big on theses old crime stories being made into tv shows or movies being we already had to lie through the endless news special reports and other b.s. fodder that went along with it. This I don’t remember much of, even those some of it I think happened I my teens. As I said there are a few things that sounded familiar.

I think I’ll have to give this a seal of approval, but I’m not sure which. I don’ have a mini series or limited event series as they are calling them now. I thought ‘wortho’ as I call him (Sam Worthington) was great, the series was engaging and after all it was only 8 episodes. So it’s worth a watch.
