2018  Pg-13 Action, Thriller  1:42   Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Neve Campbell

After an explosion during a mission, ex-military special ops Will Sawyer is Security #1 at the world’s largest building on earth, ‘The Pearl’. I believe they said something about it being a mile high, its 225 stories. And NO its NOT a real building. (but who knows, maybe someone will make one at some point)

Just as he gets his biometric tablet, he can control it all from there. It was not hard to tell sus out who the antagonists were.  Also a building on a computer network, no thank you!

Being as The Rock was in it, I thought it was going to be a crap movie, but for one it was better than I thought it would be.

There’s a few intense parts, and anyone with a fear of Heights, whatever you do DO NOT look down during those types of shots. I got dizzy and a headache from at least one shot.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

2017     PG13  1:59          Action, adventure, Comedy

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan

This time instead of the Jungle coming to them and destroying a house as it did in the 1995 Original starring Robin Willams they go to the jungle.

In the original the children find a board game that comes to life, sadly there’s no explanation as to how the board game  video game of an Atari looking System they find while cleaning a classroom (i’m guessing detention?) and they decide to take a break to play.

They each choose their avatars, which most of them by the name, you don’t know what your avatar will be male or female. That becomes what should have been a funny part, but after the trailer being shown so many times between the debut of it and the release of the movie it falls flat. Although I do like Jack Black in this, but then Kevin Hart is always a fire cracker you can’t help but love.

Central Intelligence

2016 Pg-13  1:47  comedy  action

Dwayne Johnson &  Kevin Hart  Jason Bateman   IMDB

The comedy about the kid that was bullied no matter how big or small he was (and what that person could possibly become) looked funny in the trailers, but I saved that money for another movie as I thought they likely showed all the good stuff in the trailers or just wouldn’t be funny (esp. if the best parts were in the trailer…)

So one day I’m checking out what’s on and I got the chance to watch it on HBO in full before it came up on my ‘Q’.

It was mildly funny but a good laugh, in jokes as well as storyline (much more so than Ghostbusters was).

The Rock plays Bob Stone very computer generated obese student with a small girly voice from what I remember. He contacts his old school football hero Calvin, who is now an accountant.  Meanwhile there’s someone that is following Bob around that he’s a bad guy or some such.

The reunion is well worth the watch  and it put more of a smile on my face than the rest did especially the

“You look like a black Will Will Smith’ line

You could call this an action comedy and maybe is why it worked more than most comedies. Who is the Black Badger?

In parts Kevin Hart reminds me of a badger  but also a hyena the way he screams like a girl, that alone gives me a laugh.

San Andreas

2015  PG13  1:54 Blu-ray    stars the Rock, Paul Giamatti Carla Gugino & Alexandra Daddario   +Cast

The Rock goes heroic again in this siezemic production of what Californians and most of the U.S. knows as ‘The Big One’; and  I’m not talking fish. This is the one that will likely be the one which will make a revision in our maps that California or at least the coast along the fault will break off from the rest of the country. The Cataclismic earthquake of the largest fault (to my knowledge) which splits a family between L.A. and San Francisco  and the beginning scene works as a PSA for No phone activity at all while driving.

OMG I just saw former ‘Locomotion’ singer  Kylie Minogue is in this and I knew that ‘english’ boy looked familiar.. he plays the son in Dracula Untold

‘The Rock’ plays an LAFD chipper pilot who sounds like he damages the helicopter alot. He saves his ex-wife who’s current boyfriend played by the handsome   Ioan Gruffudd   (pronunciated  Yo-han  Griffith) is a nice guy but a coward.

Does it have the thrills and action you’d expect… YES!

Do I regret NOT seeing it in the theater…. YES!

for me it was even a horror movie and I’m sure as well as for anyone who has experienced an earthquake minor or worse.

Back in the 80s, I experienced one when I was little. My father was away which means it was likely October or November (Hunting season) and so I got to sleep in the big bed. Glad I was… I woke up saying Mr. T was shaking the bed. It was only a few seconds but for the fact it was enough to make new cracks in the pavement outside I think that means it was at least a 3.5 (if not a 5.3) I did not like that and am terrified New York’s plate will shift again before I die.

I’m not one that needs to use motion sickness pills.. but I should have taken one before this! There’s one part they show the earth ‘doing the wave’ talking about rolling hills, I had to go grab some ginger ale… it made me feel nausea! And again when one of the buildings fell (can’t remember which .. maybe it was the boyfriend’s building)

There’s parts where you should feel the tension building even though you know its coming, but there is none.

Watching this made me feel a thousand times more freaked out than I did as a kid. So as far as natural disasters go, the movie wasn’t and this would have been worth the price seeing in the theater. Had i seen it in the theater I probably would have had a panic attack cause I felt anxious while watching the movie.

So if you have a blu-ray player and a big screen tv… make sure there’s no one playing under the couch and chairs, but making the sound loud then you can immerse yourself in the chaos of everything going on. (Stimulation overload in some parts) and this movie made me realize why I don’t like NYC (or maybe at least on a subconscious level) because there’s too many huge tall buildings and it’s a freaking island and I am NOT getting stuck if something bad happens there. Its few & far between times that I go to the city so consider yourself special if i ever do and especially if I would ever visit someone in California cause knowing my luck… there’s be one when I’m there!

Game Of Thrones Adds Richard E. Grant

Addition to Fall Preview

November 1st  The Librarians  8pm 2 hour season 2 premier

SuperGirl -doesn’t look so super as far as the CBS season preview. It definitely doesn’t stack up to Arrow’s action or Gotham’s storytelling. I won’t even mention Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  being as Marvel is the King Midas of Comic adaptations well Minus that new garbage called Fantastic 4, I knew it wouldn’t do shit but then it wasn’t from Marvel Studios. The jury though I I think may still be out on Agent Carter, the midseason mini-series while agents is on hiatus. I think I heard mixed reviews and that the ratings were a bit low but will have another season. My question is, was it because it’s a woman character it was based around t as a ‘superhero’ or was it due to the dreary looking era in which it takes place?  A few of the comic series I hear of  on Netflix (or wherever) a few look better for network tv than supergirl .  If you have a DVR record this and watch when there’s nothing better on, like on holidays or during Hiatus.

An Angry Birds movie will be out May 2016

Sam Smith Spectre soundtrack

2007 NR 1:28  Comedy

Director John Cosgrove’s debut stars Mike Vogel, Breckin Meyer, Mena Suvari, Callum Blue, Mark Pellegrino & Marsha Thompson, Andrew Lee Potts and Sonja Wagner

The hip Black Cat coffee house in London’s staff and clientele find their lives, jobs and relationships intermingling . Trouble begins when Rachel fires her chef boyfriend, to which gets them backlogged with orders. Drama ensues for each character one of which whose grandmother is there for her day out of the nutter house. Another (Breckin Meyer) is a wouldbe novelist trying to get his book published. Rachel as already mentioned has relationship trouble, even the diners have their own dramas going on. Sonja Wagner’s character is there with her controlling, possessive,  macho acting (but definitely not looking) boyfriend who gets jealous at anything. All situations are more or less funny but my favorite is the stoner characters played by Vogel and Potts.  Potts’ character’s stoner paranoia and the nutty grandma thinking he’s her husband. The best way to sum things up is forget about coffee , it’s a nut house with the beautifully decorated  not so padded walls (I love the Pillars and that big Dresser), there’s more misfits here than in a federal prison   C+

Invisible Review for the

The Invisible Man

1933 NR 1:11 b/w    Claude Rains    Cast   via DVD    1st watch (and likely will again)   Please Highlight starting here

Scientist Jack Griffin played by Claude Rains becomes invisible after an experiment goes awry and so hides out  in the Lion’s head inn . When employees and the tenants fail to give him peace he terrorizes the british village of Ipping. It’s too late  when he looks for help  thanks to an ingredient in the drug that helped make him invisible, which also makes one a homicidal maniac. The woman from the inn that shows the Invisible man his room, cracks me up. The hysterics and she looks like she should play the witch in Hansel and Gretel.

How did they make the Invisible man Invisible in this? You’ll have to rent it and watch the special features on the disk, its worth it.  Its so weird to see when the invisible man has only a shirt or only pants on,  so how did they make him invisible? There’s no blue or green screen in those days, I have to say this is definitely one of the classic movies that all should watch, especially those who grew up with the CGI FX.  (Yes depending on a movie’s budget depends on how good the graphics are but some are still crap looking for instance the 2015 version of Fantastic Four, I saw the Human Torch and the older one looked much better. If you are going to do something firey, just film some variations of real fire then paste it in. Don’t try to create it from scratch you can tell!

I think I’d have to say my favorite pars is the ‘haunted’ shirt (where the cops go to his room) and pants part (toward the end, when you ‘see’ him skipping! Oh and everytime he came out with that maniacal laugh. I’d hear it and would give me a tickle, guess that’s my morbid sense of humor getting the tickle.

The Invisible man  is a metaphor for the outcast      B+
