Valerian and the City of a thousand Planets

2017  PG-13 Sci-fi   Comic adaptation    Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna,  Clive Owen,   Ethan Hawke

IMDB info

Based on a French comic series Valerian (DeHaas) and Laureline are United human federation agents (not time traveling agents as the Netflix sleeve says) and wait UHF.. wasn’t that some frequency or something on the old TVs, and a Weird Al Yankovich song or movie?

The ‘City of a thousand planets’  (population 30 mil and 5000 languages NOT including computer languages) was a space station that was ‘docked’ in Earth’s atmosphere but when it became too big (and heavy) they sent it out into space. We have a beautiful paradise of a Beach world and I want one of those cute little creatures! Oh my.. after what I just saw it do, everyone is going to want one!  One of the ‘fish people’ I guess its royalty or some form of leader reminds me of was it Ramses that was in the movie 300?  Oh man are those multi-colored clouds pretty!

I will tell you right now.. if you do not have an HDtv and at least a blu-ray player (or better) to watch, wait until you do. Rihanna’s “Bubble” character is cool, as well as her part. I enjoyed all the different (and creative) beings in this world although some did remind me of creatures from other movies and shows, one of them I would swear was from Star Wars. I could be wrong on this, as I have not watched the original Star Wars movies in a long time but better to ‘remind me of, than to look just like. If it reminds you of something from some other movie or show then it could have been based on it as the person who created it might be a big fan and wanted to pay tribute to who and what made them want to become a creature designer.

It was no Avatar but there are parts that took my breath away as did Avatar. But man I would love a television screen the size of the wall and a more expensive HD you know the kind that you actually try to reach into the screen to grab a piece of food from cause it looks so real like it’s sitting more in front of the screen than in it. There’s been a few of those when I’ve gone to Best Buy or P.C. Richards that I thought I could reach in and grab or pet whatever was on screen.

Oh and somewhere along the movie I’d swear i saw a Pokemon!

I think I can understand why some (many?) were not happy with it. The fact that the trailers showed us the bright colorful eye-candy parts that one would marvel at, but its not all Pandora and Turoks. They show a dark underworld of the city, just as any other city has. Speaking of Pandora, there were elements of in the MÜL people that reminded me of Na’vi from Avatar.

I enjoyed the mystery of the movie but I still figured out who was behind it first, it was more a matter of why did they do it for me.

Maybe there are a few scenes that run on a little longer than they should. The FX I give an A, Story I’d say a C same for the 2 stars. Overall a B for effort but then I never heard about the comic until now. Not sure if the comic is of the same name but I wouldn’t mind looking into finding one to give a read.

Rated R     2017   BR  1:43  Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal,  Rebecca Ferguson ,Hiroyuki Sanada

A crew of the international space station discovers a one celled organism in a sample collected from Mars.

The ‘creature’ which starts out looking like I guess a tape worm, starts to show signs of freakish intellect.

Apparently this thing is likely the reason Mars looks like a desert wasteland.

They keep showing a rant in a cute but oppressive harness, looks weird like they are sort of going to take it for a walk but the harness is more like a handcuff. Sadly I think I know what the rat’s fate will be.  The tape worm alien breaks the guys fingers and hand and …well no child or one with a love of animals should see what happens next. Traumatizing.

WEll Reynolds in a sense just got Probbed, (and was so wishing for a deadpool quip for it) each time it grows it looks like something else… now it sort looks like a star fish maybe more like a space squid…and can even camouflage itself (or make itself invisible altogether who knows) .. talk about an invasive species!

Its also like a shark and can smell blood from however far away (I think it was on the other side of the space station) I wasn’t expecting that ending! certainly that was a twist. But when or how did that happen? ‘Trick shots’

It was ok for a watch at least it didn’t take the form of the others like the alien in Dreamcather and I can’t think of the other title, but you get the point.

2016    PG-13      Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, Forster Witacker, Ian Donnaly     1:56

Adams plays linguist Louise Banks who is approached by the military for her language skills after the landing of multiple space craft ‘land’  all across the globe. They haven’t actually landed as last I checked, you need to TOUCH the land to do so, but more parked themselves hoovering feet above.

Not sure I should mention what the aliens look like but then that WOULD be a spoiler!

The movie starts out interesting enough, aside from the fact of all the ships ‘landing’ making me think it was going to turn out to be a knock off of Independence day. However the movie declines for me the last half of the movie.

The whole time I thought the governments and military should only be a support system as a small group NOT running the whole damn thing. The aliens speak in what looks like a bunch of Oroborus designs

Freaks of Nature

2015  R   Comedy, Horror   1:32 via cable   IMDB page

Nicholas Braun, Mackenzie Davis, Josh Fadem, Denis Leary, Ed Westwick, Vanessa Hudgens, Patton Oswalt,

IN the town of Dillford, humands, Zombies and Vampire all go to school together, its a true monster high (but where’s the witches & werewolves?)  For those of you that XOXO Chuck Bass  on Gossip Girl, did you ever think he looked a bit like a bat? I did and almost didn’t notice the new addition in his mouth!

during the Baseball game I didn’t expect dork boy to do that! Great arm!

Why would vampires make contact with aliens? and zombies meetings, I hope its nothing important because unless there’s a newly bitten person still transitioning to a Zombie nothing will happen if at all (LOTR fans, think the Ents)

So this had me laughing quite a bit and couldn’t stop smiling afterward, I had fun watching this even skipping watching my regular shows! A goofy blend of horror & comedy.

Now there’s one I always have to make note when vampires are involved…because for some reason I notice  and is how the actors who play the vampires take to their fangs. There are some you can tell either maybe they were made too long (like some in True Blood) as I was able to tell some of the actors even after a few seasons still didn’t seem comfortable. In this the girl that’s turned by Milan doesn’t seem to be all too comfortable with hers. There are a few signs I can tell either keeping your mouth open or the way you hold it open and a few other things which unless you are here for me to show you, I am not sure how to explain them. ‘Milan’ on the other hand, seemed to be a natural.

Whether you like horror or not, this is a worthy movie to watch. Some cheesyness, and just goofy fun.  I don’t remember any reason for it to have an R rating, but I think even some kids under 13 could watch. I mean it does take place with those that are supposed to be high school students. So why not have given a PG-13?

I think Ed Westwicks character shows just a little bit of the old Chuck Bass swagger which was coo, besides it was good he had it considering the character his plays.

2015 PG 1:24  blue ray

Looking for a safe haven , a band of aliens arrive on earth on the run from some cosmic enemy. One of these alien refugees accidentally gives away their location  and is now trying to avoid capture.

I love the way they change color depending on their mood. Red is obviously angry  Green= lying Pink- I think means they are proud  Yellow =scared and I think blue might be blue. They don’t just turn one color, sometimes its a solid with lines.

This was cute but if aliens ever do come, I highly doubt they’ll be cute  (or entertaining) like these. This is a good movie, but not great like How to Train your dragon, Happy Feet and the likes of those. It was an averagely good animated movie the whole family could enjoy, and let the little kid inside shine though!    Best as a rental    C
