Led by a warrior named Andy (Charlize Theron), a covert group of tight-knit mercenaries with a mysterious inability to die have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. But when the team is recruited to take on an emergency mission and their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed, it’s up to Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the newest soldier to join their ranks, to help the group eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary. –Written by Netflix
The Old Guard have been around for hundreds thousands or is it millions of years. They pop up everywhere us mortals ‘really need’ them. Civil War, the World Wars, to name a couple. Their adventures in this story travel to South Sudan, Afghanistan, and London, of those I can remember
In the opening they are looking very corpselike and all shot up. I forget if it was the Sudan or London where they go to that’s ‘a repeat’. A ‘repeat is a city or country they have already been to in the past and therefore to save face as a rule, are not supposed to go there.
They are recruited for a mission by Chiwetel Ejiofor, which I’m not liking the vibes I’m getting from him in this. So you know I DON’T trust him…. do you think my ‘scorpio senses’ are right?
So through the movie I’m waiting for them to say HOW they came to be immortal. Though they are not fully as at some point they eventually do die, just not in 80-100 years. Oh ok I hear over 200 years for one of them, so they are just born this way I guess, and at some point they just get quick regenerative powers. Oh What kind of Battleaxe is that!
The guard is having dreams of a seemingly young girl and did I see a military uniform on her? During a mission the girl is killed, but when she comes back everyone seems to be excluding her. Those at the camp come off as High School mean girls as she walks in and leaves.
Nile: Why is this happening to me
Andy: Don’t know I was once worshipped as the goddess Andromeda & something about you already met the supernatural
Vampires or not this ‘fledgeling’ as most all is such a pain.
Nile: are you good guys or bad guys
old guard: Depends on the century
Nicki & i met during the crusades
I have a note for 1812, I believe that was the last time they had a new recruit.
I think I spotted some inconsistencies with some of the wounds.
A neck slash I would swear the bandage is not exactly where it was on our soldier. Same with the shoulder wound on Andy from where she put her hand to where the bandage was taped on.
I hope somehow they have a sequel, so we learn more about them. It was a cool movie which over time I might watch again. One of the few movies worth watching this year.
