Thor Ragnarok

3D   PG-13  Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchette, Mark Ruffalo, Karl Urban Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum,Taika Waititi Idris Elba

Valkyrie.. first of all… Valkyries have wings (where the Christians got angels from)  Director Taika Waititi wantschris hemsworth thor movie to make it clear that racial diversity in his cast was not the primary goal.  “I’m not obsessed with the idea that you cast someone just to tick a box. You should cast people because they are talented”. (and with that I give my respect! as I have always felt the same.)  “with Valkyrie, I wanted to make sure we weren’t making a female character that was boring and pretty. What I wanted was someone who was going to play the opposite and be even more the ‘guy’ character than the guys. Ultimately I thought Tessa was the best person we found. *Honestly… aside from her work on Vikings…. Katheryn Winnick would have been better, (She’s Blond, pretty but definitely not boring, she has her own martial arts school(s) and her character on Vikings is a kick-ass shield-maiden. (which all that martial arts helped her get the role)  In my belief, when shield-maidens die, they become Valkyries. One day in researching the Valkyries of the Norse, I found there is one with the name Lagertha!

So what were the other Avengers up to during Ragnarok?

The Review

With Led Zepplin’s Immigrant song playing “I come from the land of ice and Snow…” I almost thought it was Guardians of the Galaxy.

One thing is for sure, if they had to pay for any rights to use the song, they most certainly got their money’s worth!

I asked dad if he wanted to come and see it, but I planned to see it in 3D. When I said I was seeing it in 3D he actually sounded excited about it so I was surprised as because he has cataracts in one eye I didn’t think he would be able to see it that way.

The 3D was great but we should have sat a row or 2 back more as some of the scale seemed off. When people should have looked taller they looked smaller and vice-versa.

Setta looks like or at least reminds me of the band Danzig’s logo

One thing I really liked about the 3D is you get Thor coming at you in 3D, but it didn’t seem cheesy then you get a, Thor’s eye view as well as he is flying which I very much appreciated. Yes there is one ‘corny’ 3D bit where Mjolnir his hammer comes at the screen which I sort of groaned at but didn’t feel like one of those overly corny blatant gimmicky 3D ‘joke’. Considering the scene it was in, it didn’t feel like a 3d cliche to me, just more of an annoyance that it would be done in this but then again you have a big bad ass Viking god hammer so I can forgive it as if I were in Taika’s director’s chair I may have likely had the urge to do the same. But no idea if I would have done it.

Was that supposed to be the dragon Sigurd defeated in myth & legends?

When Thor gets to Asgard I’d say it’s one of the highlights in the movie. There’s a play Odin is watching, which turns into a bit of a comedic and surprise cameo (not to mention a bit of history repeating itself….) I couldn’t make out at the time WHO was the cameo but once I figured it out I had wondered to myself WHY he had shown up on Kimmel with the cast.

Loki-I’m not a witch

Thor- Then why do you dress like one

Thank gods they got rid of Thor’s wig, which kinda looked more like brushed straw. I do love the new look, but I also miss the old armor at the same time. But I guess you could say that was more his ‘Princely’ or Godly armor.

So I very much liked the opening sequence with the fire giant.

Cate Blanchette looks STUNNING as Hela (heck I think she looks younger in that costume! even) I just might have to try making my own Hela headdress but it reminds me of spider legs (i hate spiders) so may pass on that, but who knows!

Valkyrie is a bounty hunter, and going into this I don’t like the character. She doesn’t look like a Valkyrie, not in looks, lack of wings and that costume not even close to shield maiden worthy. Whatever those things are in the Junkyard, remind me of a cross between furless Ewoks  and those sand creatures from Star Wars (or is it the things from the Phantasm movies)

UGh!! I REALLY have to have a talk (more like go on a rant)with Kirby, Stan Lee and whoever else created the Thor comics.

If you are basing a character on already existing mythology from legend why are you meddling with it?

WHY in the HEL is HELA the firstborn of Odin? She’s the Fraking daughter or Loki!! Odin made her the goddess of Hel and the dead. Fenrir the wolf and Jormungard the Midgard serpent are Loki’s sons. Oh my there’s a part with Hela that will remind you of  The Return of the King if you saw it.

BEST CAMEO YET OF STAN LEE!

Thor somehow sees thorough Heimdall’s(who has I’d say a larger part in this movie than previous)  eyes which made him look like a wolf or cat.

I don’t like Karl Urban’s character. Anyone could have played it really and there’s nothing to the character. An even though by the end of the movie he is supposed to have redeemed himself, I still didn’t like him.

I will ask this,. Can Taika remake the first 2 movies? because unlike those, this movie was worthy!

The best, Funniest, and felt like a Marvel movie unlike the 2 previous ones, frankly the Dark World to me felt more DC than Marvel.

That rock character (Oh Taika voiced him) looks more like he belongs in Guardians, and have the feeling that maybe at some point we might see him in one.

First easter Egg there’s a ship that reminds of the destroyer’s face (the big robot Loki lets loose in the first Thor movie)

Zoe bell doubles for Cate Blanchette

the 2nd easter egg Jeff Goldblum’s grandmaster lands in junkyard an announced results of the match.

I know I know ..Why haven’t I mentioned Hulk right? Well because this is called THOR:Ragnarok not Hulk Ragnarok but the amount of time Hulk was in it they should have had a more neutral title.  Hulk was in it as much as Thor maybe even more. When I mentioned this to others, they said the same thing happened with Spider-man homecoming (which at the time of seeing this I still had yet to catch Spidey) that Ironman and Captain America were in it too much, but they are wrong about that. As of writing this review (I’m writing it in December as my computer died on me mid-october) I have finally been able to see Spider-man Homecoming and Robert Downey jr. and Chris Evans roles were nowhere close to the amount of Hulk’s.  I have no problem with the other characters from the MCU interacting and showing up in other movies its one of the things I love about it. But When it’s supposed to be THOR as the title and the co-star gets as much or (possibly) more then I do have a problem.  While Hulk as big as he is, did not shadow Thor, there were just maybe 15 minutes to half an hour too much of him. Meanwhile in Captain America: Winter Soldier which is CLEARLY a Co-starring title, Sebastian Stan’s Winter Soldier gets what was it 10-15 minutes and only one or 2 lines. Does that mean if anyone cameos in Black Panther (I think Captain does) or even Ant-man and Wasp that what seems like the headlining star will actually be made to look like the co-star? Spider-man got it right, with the Downey Jr. (not co-star but not a cameo either. he shows up a few times and I think he’s in those scenes no longer than 5 minutes each and I didn’t actually count how many times he showed up but maybe I think 5 tops. Also, remember he’s supposed to be the teen spider-man’s mentor, so he should not overshadow, nor show the kid up but be a learning experience. Back to Cap and Bucky, I think Bucky got more air time in Captain America First Avenger than ‘Winter Soldier’ in the 2nd movie. We also get to sort of see an origin story between the Captain America Movies but I think the 2nd Captain movie should have either, had a Bucky/Winter Soldier solo movie before it (to see maybe the events between First Avenger and Winter Soldier) or had some form of a 15-minute Winter Soldier ‘introduction/origin’ type story.

I’m giving this one an A. One of, IF NOT the best movie of the year, best of the series, best improvement, best sequel etc. It was fun, wacky, kinda weird, looney and somehow stuff that maybe shouldn’t fit together, did. This is the laughing gas that was needed (now if only DC could do the same)

I don’t recall if they mentioned who the cameo is or other bits that would be spoilers so
